Simple Tips For Natural Hair Care

By Lena Stephenson

Hair is an important accessory for many women; no wonder most of them spend so much time and money on keeping it in the right shape. Maintaining natural hair is the tricky part as it calls for even more attention and love. In fact, to get it right, you must first start by understanding it and working with it and not against it. Natural hair care is difficult, but once you get it, its worth all the effort.

If you want to go natural, you must first understand your hair, its texture, length, shrinkage and porosity. For starters, it is good to understand that there is no such thing as right or wrong texture. Long or short always work depending on the styles you do. However, your hair looks, feels or appears, you must understand it so as to take care of it in the right way.

One of the most important aspect of the care routine for your new do is moisture. Dry natural is unhealthy and is more prone to tangle and breakage. You must maintain a regular washing and conditioning schedule. Although it is different for everyone, at least once a week is recommended. While washing, steer clear from shampoos with sulfates as they strip oils, leaving it even more dry.

After washing, you must condition it. The role of conditioners is to replenish proteins lost during the process of washing. People who condition regularly observe stronger hair with better capabilities of retaining moisture. For moisture, remember to use water based moisturizers with humectants. Mineral oil or petroleum based moisturizers are more sealants than moisturizers.

Sealants lock in moisture in between the follicles preventing it from escaping and subsequently dryness. Oil and butter based sealants are the best for your care routine. In fact, many people use coconut oil, applying it just before washing. Another sealant widely used due to its similarity in composition to sebum is jojoba oil. Olive oil, glycerin and aloe are also favorites among many people.

Most people are confused about what products to use. Some people swear by all natural products from their own gardens while others prefer synthetic products. The most important factor to consider before buying products is looking out for what works. If those fresh from your garden do not work for you, you have to try synthetic products.

Remember not to spend a fortune buying products. Most of them are readily available, just under your nose. Looking around the kitchen, you will find coconut milk, honey, avocado, apple cider vinegar and olive oil. These same products are also great for your care routine. Also, remember to keep an eye on the pH of products use-3.5 to 7 is good enough. You can buy pH test strips to test when not sure.

Straight or curly hairs require different techniques to keep them in good shape. If you go out of your way to ensure that it is moisturized and breakage and tangling are minimal, you are on the right path. There is really no right or wrong procedure or product, what matters is you find and use what works for you.
